Created in May 2016 at the Centre Pompidou for the Night of Museums and since restaged in various institutions, One Teen / One Work is a performative journey that brings museum artworks into resonance with the creative practices of emerging young artists.

This is a moving performance—literally—where the audience journeys from one gallery to the next, discovering a new performance with each artwork. Whether through song, dance, spoken word or sound, the artworks come to life, stories unfold, and a unique relationship emerges between a finished, exhibited piece and the teenager who interprets and reimagines it.

The entire performative route is the outcome of a long process of observing the museum’s collections and spaces. While rooted in a spirit of mediation, it transcends traditional formats to offer a fresh artistic proposition: the fruit of an encounter between a work of art and a teenager.

This year, One Teen / One Work will take place at the Fondation Maeght on the 4th and the 5th of July, offering an exceptional encounter with both the Foundation’s permanent collection and its current temporary exhibition.

With One Teen / One Work, the François Stemmer Company invites visual art institutions to co-create these vibrant encounters with the performing arts, working with young local artists and exploring art through the lens of youth and adolescence.
