The system he invented was like a rudimentary seismograph, recording the drawings traced by the wind in different countries of the world on glass surfaces prepared with lamp black. For the exhibition, Bernard Moninot has made a new collection in the gardens of the Fondation Maeght.

The poetry of the system designed by Bernard Moninot lies in the touch of madness in wanting to make concrete something that escapes all concretion. It has the childlike seriousness and the flavour of dream science. In addition, capturing the wind in the shadow and the lightness of smoke is a kind of mirage in which, in a very real sense, there is nothing to see. The traces left by the movement of the stylus have less to do with marking a line than with an erasure, while the flaws in the black render the transparency of wind, by leaving it up to light, the spectrum of light, to reveal it in its constitutive absence and its ghostly essence.
